Common Market : ♥

Tobacco Road, the second LP effort from the seattle-based duo Common Market is an absolutely gorgeous musical contribution. RA Scion and Sabzi work together beautifully to create some of the most angelic beats I've heard in a while. Winter Takes All and Swell, the tracks listed above, are my two favorites. They have been stuck on repeat for multiple days now.

Sabzi (the deejay and producer) plays double genius duty as one half of another stunning Seattle-bred band, Blue Scholars. RA's (the emcee) poignant lyrics capture the art of story-telling, a skill Slick Rick and the rest of us should revel in.

Blue Scholars and Common Market blessed Portland last week (The Freshly Dipped Tour and as part of People Under The Stairs West coast tour, respectively). Both shows were thick with energetic crowds and personalized PUTS and Hieroglyphics hoodies.

Theory Hazit

Theo and his family moved to Portland about two years ago from Cincinnati and hip hop stages in town haven't been the same since. Aside from having one of the silliest, soft-spoken senses of humor, Theory's smooth, involved rhyme patterns, slick lyrics and poised stage presence make him one of my favorite rose city emcees.

The video above is for the track, Just Another Day, off Theo's 2007 LP release, Extra Credit. Even though the album came out last year, this vid is hot off the press - it was mastered and released today. Enjoy.

The Northwest Radio Breakout Show

King of NE Portland rapping fortes, Cool Nutz is about to re:up for our hip hop scene yet again. Beginning on Oct. 3rd and every Friday from 9 - 10 pm, he'll begin hosting, The Northwest Radio Breakout Show on Jammin' 107.5 FM. This means that while Starchile will still graciously hold us down on Sundays with a marriage of local and national underground sounds, Nutz's show will focus exclusively on local NW artists, Seattle included. Expect a stew of folks like; Lifesavas, Sandpeople, Liv Warfield, Illaj & Mikey Vegaz, Illmaculate, Blue Scholars, Mic Crenshaw, Soul P. and hopefully as soon as her fly project comes out of the closet, Miss Rae Rae.

I'm geeked. Maybe he'll let the Trillas infiltrate the building one week. I can just hear the airwaves and angry callers now...

Shiny New 360

KEZ is going for the in-stores off the grand re-opening bat. I love it.

I love more the new space for 360. I went in yesterday to cop new music for my brother's birthday (being in law school means he's totes out of the Blu, Shawn Jackson, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Janelle Monae loop) and could have posted up for the day. Huge storefront windows mean sunlight and the primest people watching. Plus, you've got Mexican food and Mary's right around the corner for midday sustenance. Yippee all around.

Tears of Joy

Okay so honestly, I am NOT a Ne-Yo fan. His lips are a bit to pouty & greasy for me (do you wear the clear Mac Lipglass too?!?!?) and I kinda think he's corny (this is MY blog I can say whatever I WANT TO SAY). However, homie can sing and write his ARSE off!

I wasn't trying to check for his new album...AT ALL. My Dope and Fly boo Mica RAVEEDDDDDD about the album...A LOT. I decided to stop being a Brat..ta..tat..tat. and actually check the album out. *sigh*

The VERY first song I listened to was "So You Can Cry" (yeah...this emo chick allllwayyyss gravitates to the super sappy "i left and now you're talking to my brother i think i'm gonna jump out of my first story window" tracks). THE SONG IS DOPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPEEEEE ANNNNNNNNNNND FLLLLLLLLLLLY (pun)!!!! So much so, I decided to make a blog about how ILL the song is without listening to the rest of the album!!!! PREAACCHHH!!

I must say...based off this track and the BPM bumping Closer....I kinda dig this man. Seriously...I think I'm gonna put aside the whole lip thing and really check for dude.

360 Vinyl Moves & KEZ Reminisces
